Steve has been a professional pension trustee with Law Debenture for more than ten years and represents Law Debenture on sixteen pension schemes of varying sizes and complexity, from schemes with assets of several million pounds to others with assets of several billion pounds. His first acquaintance with pensions was in the late eighties when he assisted the internal auditor at his employer, an international bank in the City, in resolving “some anomalies” with the pension scheme. He went on to establish a successful pension audit practice with a mid-tier firm of chartered accountants, assuming responsibility for national pensions training and technical issues and becoming a trustee of that firm’s own scheme. Steve has considerable experience of dealing with change affecting pension schemes, including closure to accrual, buy-in and buy-out, corporate activity and reconstruction and sponsor insolvency. He is currently acts for schemes admitted to the Financial Assistance Scheme and in PPF assessment, as well as ongoing schemes. He is involved with various pensions bodies such as the Actuarial Users Committee of the Board of Actuarial Standards, PRAG, OPDU and NAPF. He has chaired NAPF training courses, spoken at conferences and written about pension risks. He is a Governor of London South Bank University.
